Lost: Talk About a Walkabout

The Locke Effect

Lost

Last night's installment of Lost, “Cabin Fever,” was just plain weird. The central focus was John Locke — my hero! — which pretty much explains the overall bizarre feel of the main plot.

Although we had several glimpses into John's strange past and how closely intertwined it is with The Island, none was more eerie than the following … except for the episode-ending cabin scene that I won't go into.

Brrrrrr! I've got chills!

Law and Order: A.D.A. for the Defense

Rubirosa Takes a Walk on the Wild Side

Alana De La Garza/Law & Order

After eighteen years of crimes committed on the streets and legal maneuvers in the courtroom, Law & Order is hot, hot, super hot. If you can't understand why devoted viewers are continually praising the NBC series' smoking hotness these days, take a look at the following events from last night's episode “Strike.”

Competent, compassionate, and highly intelligent Assistant District Attorney Connie Rubirosa (CSI: Miami import Alana De La Garza) is ambushed in court by a knowledgeable defendant and forced to cross over to the defense side. As a result, she's pitted against her cunning boss, Executive A.D.A. Michael Cutter (Linus Roache), whom she would normally assist.

The unexpected drama doesn't end there, however, because after her side of the table switches, Rubirosa learns a shocking secret that upends her view not only of the specific case, but of the legal field as a whole.

Believe me — if you've lost faith in the L&O franchise's original show recently, now is the time to return to the mothership. The writing, the acting, and the cast are all in top shape, making the long-running series the one to watch among the three flavors currently airing.

AMC Ready to Break Bad Some More

Cranston & Company a Go for Season Two

Bryan Cranston/Breaking Bad

Today, which is gorgeous here in my corner of the world, couldn't get any better. Why? Because cable TV's wise AMC has just announced the renewal of the Bryan Cranston cancer-meth dramedy — how's that for a unique theme? — Breaking Bad. It looks like fans will receive a second season of 13 episodes as a result. Excellent!

Former Malcolm in the Middle daddy Cranston shines in the funny yet tragic yet funny dark series as New Mexico-based high school chemistry teacher Walter White, who becomes a methamphetamine dealer more out of necessity than malevolent criminality. Add crazy extra points for series creator, executive producer, director, and writer Vince Gilligan due to his X-Files past.

Now if only we fans could get word about a fifth season of the fine British grifter dramedy Hustle, everything would be just fab when it comes to AMC.

Desperate Housewives: Bad, Bad Seed

There's Evil on Wisteria Lane All Right

Desperate Housewives

And it's not a housewife either. In fact, it's not even an adult.

Am I the only viewer who thought about the oldie but goodie thriller The Bad Seed when watching the scenes between Lynette and her husband Tom's daughter Kayla on Sunday night?

Am I the only viewer packing sufficient years to even remember that 1956 camp-horror gem that was still rotating on TV often enough for me to catch it when I was a kid?

I'm betting that Desperate Housewives creator Marc Cherry & Company were thinking of the same flick when they crafted the chilling scenes between the two women of the Scavo household.

I hope I'm going in the wrong direction, though, because if not, there's going to be significantly fewer Scavos around soon. That Kayla is super scary, as in pathologically so. Just check out the following clip if you require proof.

So, am I right or what? Told ya! And that little exchange is just the tip of the very frigid, very deep iceberg. Poor Lynette…

Audition: Barbara Walters' Journey: This news special explores Barbara Walters as we've never seen her before, although I can't imagine there's many surprises left that can top the one about her 1970s affair with Edward Brooke, Massachusetts' first black senator, who was married at the time, by the way. [10pm EST/ABC]

Moonlight: Even Vamps Get Carsick

Mick Takes to the Road

Alex O'Loughlin/Moonlight

Who'd a thunk?

On Moonlight's “Click,” super calm and ultra collected vampire detective Mick St. John gets taken on the ride of his very lengthy life … by a teenage starlet named Tierney Tate (Peyton List). Too bad it doesn't work out so smashing for her in the long run.

Desperate Housewives: Ho No!

Gaby and Carlos Get a Roomie!

Desperate Housewives

Is it just me, or is Family Ties' Justine Bateman not aging too well?

In any case, as the most recent high-profile guest star on Desperate Housewives, she got the golden opportunity to move in with Gaby and Carlos as their very first housemate on last night's episode “Opening Doors.” Why? Well, they need the money, of course.

Unfortunately, nosy Gaby discovers a secret Bateman's art student character Ellie Franks is hiding. It's a shocker, too, although nowhere near as earth-shattering as what's really going on…

Supernatural: Two 'Time Is on My Side' Previews

The Next Villain Rocks

Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles/Supernatural

When it comes to playing truly chilling, utterly unforgettable villains, there are three actors I love more than any others: J.T. Walsh (RIP), Rutger Hauer, and Billy Drago.

So, I don't have to say too much about how excited I am that the last veteran guest stars on the May 8th episode of Supernatural as — yep, that's right — the bad guy, with an otherworldly twist, of course.

Also happening on the “Time Is on My Side” installment: Dean's time before he heads to Hell continues to dwindle down, while demonic Bela's fate is finally revealed to all.

If this sounds pretty depressing, I'm sensing it will be as the series works its way up to what should be an explosive and thrilling season finale, May 15th's “No Rest for the Wicked.”

Enjoy two clips from “Time Is on My Side” below, courtesy of the fine people at Warner Bros. TV.

Chillin' with the Cast and Crew of 'Reaper'

They Can't Truss It

Ray Wise and Bret Harrison/Reaper

It's a shame about Reaper, one of my favorite new shows from last fall, which just can't get ahold of a large enough audience despite way better than decent critical reviews.

As a result of TV watchers' apparent failure to warm up to the show, the general consensus seems to be that it has a higher than likely chance of getting canceled. I really, truly, deeply hope that doesn't turn out to be true, but it wouldn't be a surprise if the series got the ax.

The bleak renewal situation is why it was so great to come across the so-called lip dub video below featuring Reaper's cast and crew chillin' out while lip-synching to the Public Enemy track “Can't Truss It.”

An interview that TV blog TheTwoCents conducted with Reaper regular Valarie Rae Miller, who plays Josie, reveals the why and the what of the hilariously fun, 3½-minute hip-hop extravaganza.

According to Miller, she came up with the idea of shooting the video after a conversation with Jessica Alba and Cash Warren, who owns a competition website called ibeatyou. Wanting to get in on the good times, Miller chose the currently in-progress Ultimate Company Lip Dub Competition for her and her Reaper colleagues.

That was the easy part. The hard part was getting everybody onboard, after which we lucky onlookers got the fantastic video below. Check it out to kick your day up a notch or three or more.
